Skyrmion Qubits: A New Class of Quantum Logic Elements Based on Nanoscale Magnetization:

Writing in Physical Review Letters with our collaborator Christina Psaroudaki, Christos theoretically demonstrates the possibility of using the helicity of a skyrmion to store and manipulate quantum information.  The proposed qubit state can be easily controlled using external electromagnetic fields together with microwave-induced magnetic field gradients.  Frustrated magnetic nanoskyrmions thus provide a remarkably competitive architecture from which to develop hardware for quantum logic.
