A perpendicular field electromagnet with a 250 mm access bore:

In an Editor’s Pick article in the Review of Scientific Instruments, we describe a new laboratory electromagnet which we designed specifically for applying large perpendicular magnetic fields to thin film magnets.  Our magnet design preserves unrestricted access to the sample surface while maintaining milliKelvin thermal stability, and is hence suitable for use with room temperature local probe microscopes.
